First Look at Commissioner Gordon in ‘Justice League’

Every day it becomes more and more apparent that Twitter is a must have for fans of comic book movies. Whether it be observing famous directors shooting the breeze about movies (Edgar Wright, Guillermo Del Toro, Phil Lord and Chris Miller) or a way to connect with your favorite content creators, social media has become a mainstay in the way we discuss culture. In the past few weeks, Ben Affleck dropped a teasery video confirming that Deathstroke would be appearing soon, and just last week Zack Snyder showed us the new “tactical” batsuit from  Justice League. Well, Snyder is proving his Twitter-worth again, he has taken to the platform to give us our first look at J.K. Simmons as Commissioner Gordon.

The reveal follows the trend of Zack Snyder Twitter reveals. Going back to 2014, Snyder revealed both the new batmobile and our first look at Ben Affleck’s Batman in these black-and-white photos. It is pretty cool that the creators of these films have this kind of relationship with the fans. Here is hoping the final result will live up to the hype these Twitter posts give us.

A Familiar Look for Commissioner Gordon

Regarding the photo itself, there isn’t too much commentary to give. That definitely looks what James Gordon as portrayed by J.K. Simmons would look like. Whether it be Tim Burton or Joel Schumacher or Christopher Nolan, the trenchcoat has always been a constant for the Commissioner. One difference between Simmons and Gary Oldman’s portrayal from The Dark Knight Trilogy would be that of the bowler hat. It looks good on him and I can’t wait to see Simmons in Justice League.

It makes sense that Snyder was able to reveal this photo. Last week Simmons confirmed that he had finished shooting his scenes in Justice League, confirming that he would not only be interacting with Batman, but “with most of the Justice League.” In addition to putting out this photo, Snyder also celebrated #BatmanDay by releasing this picture of him in front of the Bat symbol:

What does everybody else think? Do you like the new (yet familiar) look of Commissioner Gordon? Is Zack Snyder winning back your trust? Let us know in the comments below!

Justice League will hit theaters on November 17, 2017.
