First Official Photos of the Batmobile AND Batman

Yesterday, Zack Snyder, director of 2016′s eagerly awaited Batman vs. Superman film, tweeted a partial photo of the new Batmobile that will be featured in the movie. The famous car was mostly under a tarp, though, and Snyder teased that maybe he would show us the entire thing tomorrow (Today).

Snyder held true to his promise, and then some. The photo he and Warner Bros. released of the Batmobile also features something else of note; the first photo of Ben Affleck as Batman. It does not disappoint.

While the photo is dark and somewhat difficult to make out from the waist down, we can clearly see, what appears to Ben Affleck, in his full Batman gear.  A large, black Bat symbol is stretched across his chest and his ears reach just a few inches off of his cowl. One can certainly ascertain that the suit is indeed gray, as it was rumored to be, accented by a dark, black cape, cowl, and bat symbol. This marks the first time that Batman will be donning a classic gray Batsuit on the big screen, much to fans’ delight.

In this enhanced photo, we can see more details of the suit. It seems to be made of the same material as Henry Cavill’s Superman, and it is thankfully lacking the signature black trunks.

The Dark Knight Returns

The suit shares a striking resemblance to the one used by Batman in Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, sans the trunks and blue cape/cowl/gloves etc. It was rumored early on that Snyder and co. would be using The Dark Knight Returns for ideas throughout the film, although I don’t think many assumed they would base the Batsuit off of Miller’s, without making the movie an adaptation of the critically acclaimed graphic novel.

The Batmobile, which ends up with the short end of the stick, looks like a Tim Burton/Christopher Nolan hybrid as is shares characteristics with the two most popular Batmobiles of the modern era. In the enhanced photo, one can see very large tires and some serious armor, much like Nolan’s Tumbler.

Batman vs. Superman will be released on May 16, 2016.
