Keya Morgan Charged With Abusing Former Client Stan Lee
An iconic talent worthy of any Earth in the multiverse: Stan Lee, father to Marvel Comics and to superhero true believers from all corners of the globe. On the 12th of November, news of his passing spread through social media rapidly. He was a beloved figure that gave us memorable characters that have become ingrained in our popular culture. His name and legacy carry weight as a known genius of his craft.
Behind the veil of Stan Lee, the creator, was Stan Lee, the devoted husband.
He met his wife in the 1940s and enjoyed marital bliss right up to her passing in 2017. During the time of Joan’s passing, Stan became close with his caretaker who also acted as his manager.
It has come to light in a recent court case that Keya Morgan, throughout 2017 and 2018, was abusive towards the 95-year-old comic mogul. A temporary restraining order was filed in 2018 against Mr. Morgan. The order stated specifically that Keya Morgan was “unduly influencing and isolating Mr. Lee.”
These claims were rebutted by Morgan himself as he spoke with TMZ stating:
“I have taken great care of Stan Lee for the past many years, and have never had a problem directly with Stan.”
Keya then clarified his statement by adding:
“I have a fantastic relationship with him for the past many years as he has stated countless times on the record and I literally saved his life once. I will 100% prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the allegations against me are false.”
Despite his statement, a court ruling that occurred last Friday has found Morgan guilty on the charge of multiple accounts of elderly abuse, including alleged false imprisonment. A representative of the Los Angeles Superior Court stated that a $300,000 warrant was issued for Morgan’s arrest.
This troubling news follows a previous attempt at a restraining order filed by Stan Lee’s attorney. However, the order failed to gain traction, predominantly based on the fact that Lee did not advocate for it. The ruling of the court has brought a dark undertone to Stan Lee’s final months.
In his wake, his memory goes on in his visions of heroism. They leaped from the page onto the big screen, fulfilling the fantastical duty of a childhood comic come to life.
Avengers: Endgame, this year, became the fastest film ever to break the $1 billion barrier. In this trying time, his family can take solace in the verdict of the court. For millions of others out there, there are the beautiful creations that Stan Lee has left behind in our midst, to carry on for him.
