FOX Announces Changes in 2018 Film Release Schedule
FOX has announced a change of release dates for some of their 2018 films—most notably (for this audience) two sci-fi offerings we’ve been looking forward to.
Alita: Battle Angel
In December 2017, FOX debuted the first trailer for the action/adventure film Alita: Battle Angel. The film was originally slated to be released on July 20th this year but was just pushed back all the way to December 21st. Alita will have a lot to compete with on that date, as Aquaman, Bumblebee, and Holmes & Watson are set to release on that day as well.
Alita was produced by James Cameron (Avatar) and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City). It stars Christoph Waltz as Ido, a cyber-doctor, who finds an unconscious cyborg, Alita, in a junkyard. Alita (played by Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memories of herself or the world she lives in. Her world is a dangerous one. Alita must navigate her past, her memories, her new experiences, and learn about her mysterious fighting ability.
FOX has also pushed back the release date for The Predator. It has swapped places with another FOX film, The Darkest Mind. Originally scheduled to release on August 3rd, The Predator is now releasing on September 14th.
The Predator is directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys). The cast includes Boyd Holbrook (Narcos, Logan), Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Keegan-Michael Key (Keanu, Key & Peele), Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Jacob Tremblay (Room), and Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Blade Runner).
The Predator is a sequel to the existing Predator franchise, not a reboot. Other films set to release the same date as The Predator now are Alpha and Fighting With My Family.
