Funimation Cuts Ties With Voice Actor Vic Mignogna Over Harassment Allegations
Vic Mignogna, a popular anime voice actor, currently faces accusations of harassment and misconduct. Two studios, Funimation and Rooster Teeth, have released him and recast his roles. Anime News Network first reported the news then as well. Funimation officially stated it on Twitter Monday morning. They said: “Everyone, we wanted to give you an update on the Vic Mignogna situation. Following an investigation, Funimation recast Vic Mignogna in Morose Mononokean Season 2. Funimation will not be engaging Mignogna in future productions.”

Mignogna is perhaps best known for his role as Edward Elric in Funimation’s English dub of Fullmetal Alchemist.
The allegations first surfaced back in January after the release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Broly is one of Mignogna’s better-known roles. A Twitter thread posted on January 16th surfaced which highlighted Mignogna’s inappropriate behavior with underage fans at conventions and complaints about his diva attitude toward his fellow actors. #KickVic started trending as many women came forward with their stories.
Additionally, reports mostly told similar tales. Underage fans approached Mignogna for an autograph or a picture, and he hugged and kissed them. Most everyone said they were uncomfortable with it. Pictures show his behavior to be affectionate at a minimum and, in some cases, crossing a line. Especially for the girls who were underage.
Others told more concerning stories. Jamie Marchi, another voice actor, posted her story to Twitter in support of the others coming forward. She said Mignogna pulled her hair and whispered sexual things in her ear. Monica Rial, another Fullmetal Alchemist actor, said Mignogna harassed her as well. She didn’t go into detail. But she has shared her support for the victims on Twitter.
I stand with the victims. My experience is minor in comparison to many others; however, having realized this wasn’t an isolated incident, I felt compelled to share. pic.twitter.com/qC8Clp7JjQ

As more allegations surfaced, several conventions revoked his invitation.
Not The First Time
Sadly, the accusations against Mignogna date as far back as 2008. Fellow voice actors and convention attendees alike have stated the behavior is long overdue for a consequence. This is the first time the behavior has been addressed post-#MeToo. The general consensus is that this movement has encouraged people to finally take a stand against him. It has also given companies the push to do the right thing.
Other stories about Mignogna do not pertain to sexual harassment. Many have also shared stories of him expressing homophobic views and even pushing fans to accept Christianity. He is very public about his faith. He has recorded a few Christian music albums and sells them at conventions.
Mignogna has denied the allegations on social media. He released an official statement on January 21st where he apologized if he made people uncomfortable. He vehemently denied the accusations of homophobia and Antisemitism. As more people came forward, he disappeared from social media almost entirely. He only tweeted to discourage those in support of him from sending threatening messages to the victims.

It has come to my attention that there have been threats made toward others by fans in support of me. LET ME BE PERFECTLY CLEAR that I would NEVER condone anything approaching this whatsoever, and I call upon anyone doing it to STOP THIS IMMEDIATELY.

Rumors started on Twitter that he plans to take legal action against Funimation, but that is not confirmed by Mignogna or his representatives.
