Welcome to our newest weekly feature, Funko Friday. Every week we’ll bring you what’s new in the world of Funko, show you some of our favorite Funko products and just geek out over these highly addictive little collectibles.
POPs have been called the Beanie Babies of this generation and that may very well be right. I know my fascination begin when I saw a Batman and Robin in my local Target. I thought they would look awesome on my desk, so I got them, opened them and displayed them. Having an addictive personality is never a good thing and what turned out to be a one time thing quickly exploded. I soon decided to collect my own Justice League, but I couldn’t stop there. I have 203 figures in my collection and it continues to grow. Other than comic books, I have given up almost entirely collecting anything else besides Funko POPs.
Even though I know the bubble will burst one day and my collection won’t be worth the plastic they are made of, I still cannot resist them. Unlike some collectors, I do not buy them with the intention of ever opening or selling them so when that Funko bubble does eventually burst, I won’t be phased at all. In fact it would most likely be the perfect opportunity for me to pick up some of the highly coveted ones I’ve had my eye on for a while.
For our first Funko Friday, we’ve got some new releases for you. First is a new X-Men series with five previously unreleased characters and an additional new version of a previous character. Next is Red Sonja and Conan. From their respective 80’s action films, these POP! versions of Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger look far better than their movie counterparts. The POP! Pets make their debut with a selection of dogs and cats, along with a Target exclusive Bullseye (not pictured) due in stores soon. Last of this week’s additions are Rory and Lorelai Gilmore and Sookie St. James from the beloved series Gilmore Girls.
