Funko Produces New Cereal Line: FunkO’s

FunkO’s, Now a Part of Your Complete Breakfast

Do you ever think that your figurine obsession wasn’t enough? Have you considered that collectibles can and should be more involved in your life? Well, don’t worry about it, fam. Funko POP! has you covered with their new cereal line. Funko is releasing several limited edition cereal boxes called FunkO’s, each with a Funko POP! figure toy and supposedly real cereal inside.

The Fun in FunkO’s

In all seriousness, this is a cool concept. Based on the announcement on their official blog, Funko POP! is going for the Saturday morning nostalgia. I grew up during those beautiful days of weekend cartoons and breakfast toys, so this does bring up some memories. Also, though I am not the biggest fan of Funko POP!, I do find some adorable. Since these boxes seem to have miniature versions of the figures involved, they are adorable 2. Just looking at the tiny Cuphead figure makes my heart burst with glee and I may spend a ridiculous amount of money trying to get Mugman as well.

The Questionable O’s

I’m not feeling too hopeful about the color this is gonna turn the milk, either.

Next, I need to address the elephant in the room: the O’s in FunkO’s. Funko is known for its plastic, not its edibles.  Thus, some may be concerned about how the cereal will taste, and I am right there with them. I trust that Funko has food people doing the food part, but that matters little in this type of thing.

Most of my experiences with promotional cereals has been bad. I have tried the Batman v Superman cereals and that may have been the worst decision I have ever made in my life. The Super Mario Cereal, while was at least edible, was mediocre at best according to most reviewers. Combine with that fact that each box of FunkO’s changes the milk into its own individual color, I am concerned.

Certainly, it is possible that FunkO’s will taste like Fruit Loops or Apple Jacks or one of the other many O shaped pieces of processed grain. However, I have been burned before. History has proven that even the simplest cereal can go terribly wrong. Either way, it deserves a chance and I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

Gotta Catch Them All

All in all, this is going to be an interesting venture. Funko has currently announced six cereal boxes for $7.99 each. Furthermore, each box has its own unique retail location. In July, Mega Man (at GameStop), Cuphead & Mugman (Hot Topic), Freddy Funko (Funko), Freddy Krueger (FYE),  Friday the 13th Jason (FYE), and Gollum (BoxLunch)  will be available. Above all, there will be more boxes coming down the line throughout the year. Go out and munch, folks!
