Live-action Galaga is in the works and Roberto Orci joins the crew in the quest to bring it to the small screen
Galaga is a popular arcade game by Namco Japan. It is the sequel game to 1979’s Galaxian. In summary, the game plot is pretty simple; shoot insects. It’s a simple shoot and score game. Hence, the idea of Galaga as a television show is pretty much alarming. It’s not one of the video games with character developments and plot-rich content that anyone can envision as a TV series. Granted, it might work as an animated movie, but a series?
ShadowMachine, an Emmy-awarded animation studio teams up with digital studio The Nuttery Entertainment to bring the beloved arcade game to life. In addition to that, the famous writer and producer Roberto Orci will serve as an executive producer for this project. Avid Star Trek fans may know the name Roberto Orci. Some of his works are Star Trek: Into Darkness, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. In the article from Deadline, Orci states:
“Galaga is one of the games I played growing up I have fond memories of the quarters and hours upon hours I spent playing the game. I look forward to working with The Nuttery and to capture that magic in an exciting new format.”
With this in mind, the crew seems to be a steady one. On the other hand, the game plot adaptation is still questionable.
At the present time, the crew plans The Galaga Chronicles to be a12-part TV series. There aren’t any details of the series plot. A final distribution deal isn’t confirmed at the moment. Though the two companies have plans to have the series premiere in late 2019 or early 2020. Further details are yet to be released.
There’s still time to play. Who knows? Maybe there really is a story to tell.
