Gambit Movie Loses Director Gore Verbinski

Gambit Loses Its Third Director

Director Gore Verbinski has left Gambit, raising the film’s number of departed directors up to three. Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt were the two previous directors of the project. They left the project in 2016 and 2015 respectively. Although Verbinski left the project due to scheduling issues rather than creative differences, it’s still disheartening. It feels like Gambit cannot catch a break with its directorial team. Will this departure finally sink the long-floating ship? A recent business change may indicate this is the beginning of the end for Gambit.

X-Men Gambit20th Century Fox, the production company behind the in-progress Gambit film, has just been bought by Disney. It’s not clear whether this could possibly affect the production of this film. Maybe Disney will let it finish production. On the other hand, Disney may look at the production’s history and decide the film has had too many chances. However, it is still too early to tell either way. Keep an eye out for more updates!

On the bright side, Gambit seems more secure than it was when Wyatt and Liman left the project. Channing Tatum, against all odds, is still scheduled to play Remy LeBeau. Remy LeBeau is the title character, who has the ability to charge matter with volatile kinetic energy. Production on the film was scheduled to start around the beginning of this year, but it’s not clear whether Verbinski’s departure will affect this scheduling.

Finally, Gambit is currently set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2019. It’s possible that the release date will change, but it’s far enough away where that may not be an immediate concern.

What do you think about Gambit‘s directorial issues? Should Disney kill the production of the film? Talk about it in the comments!
