Some of the Dragons for the Game of Thrones Prequel Have Been Unveiled
Thanks to a sneak peek from the Game of Thrones prequel, fans now know what to expect from the dragons from that time. When you think about it, the dragons being some of the first revealed makes sense—given that the prequel is titled House of the Dragon.
House of the Dragon
House of the Dragon is a spinoff of the widely popular Game of Thrones series, available on HBO. It’s intended to be a prequel. From the sounds of things, it will come with all-new content, as well as many details hinted at over the course of the novels and show. Most specifically, it’s believed to use Fire & Blood—a companion novel written by Martin—as a template of sorts.
Created by George R.R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal, the spinoff is also bringing Miguel Sapochnik as co-showrunner (alongside Condal). It’s worth noting that this is not exactly the same prequel that was pitched by Bryan Cogman, though it is a modified version of it.
Unfortunately, that does confirm some bad news regarding the pilot already filmed. That pilot, starring Naomi Watts, will not be relevant according to the new show. That pilot is part of the officially dead series, as HBO passed on back in 2019.
The Big Reveal
WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar took to Medium to give fans a few vital updates about the plan for 2021, including the Game of Thrones prequel. As you might have heard by this point, all Warner Bros. movies releasing in 2021 in theaters will also be heading straight to HBO Max on the same day.
That isn’t the only bit of news, however. At least not for Game of Thrones fans. “Principal photography starts on the next Game of Thrones series, House of the Dragon… in a few months. Look out for dragons overhead!”
Combined with some colorful imagery of the dragons themselves, it is more than enough to hold fans over. At least, for the moment.
