Game of Thrones released their teaser poster this week and I only have one thing to say about it:
Okay seriously, all the time spent denying that Kit Harington would return, all the interviews saying “Jon is dead, Jon is really dead.” And then they put out this poster. Forget the spoilers we’ve shared on here and all the leaked photos of Jon dressed on set. This is the tipping point for the “Jon Snow: Alive or Dead” scale.
Jon Snow is alive and well.
We still don’t know how or why, though we have speculated plenty, but now at least there should be no doubt. There shouldn’t be much surprise though; dead doesn’t ever need to mean dead on Game of Thrones.
There is also the fact that George RR Martin himself has stated that one of the major fan theories is correct, and most of them involve Jon Snow. Yes the show has deviated from the path the books have set and yes they’ve made it clear that the show story is going to be more brutal that the books, but how much does anyone really think they’ll change the lives of the most important characters.
I also think that this poster shows just how much Jon Snow is going to mean to this season. It probably meant to be misdirection (and since it happens in both the books we cant just blame it on Benioff and Weiss), but if they are trying to misdirect us then I can only hope that means we’re getting close to learning the truth about Jon Snow’s past and future.
Spoilers aside, I think the poster presents a powerful image that represents the gravity of the season to come and it promised to be the one hell of a rough ride for Game of Thrones fans.
