The complete sixth season of Game of Thrones is arriving on Blu-ray and DVD next Tuesday, November 15th. With it, fans can expect to feast upon a sweet assortment of extras included in its release. Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly unveiled a deleted scene from season six, never before seen by the public. The scene was originally planned for the second episode of the latest season.
The deleted scene features a tense meeting between the snarky Queen of Thorns and her son, Mace Tyrell. Olenna (Diana Rigg) and Mace (Roger Ashton-Griffiths) comment on Cersei Lannister’s (Lena Headey) schemes while riding in a litter along the streets of Kings Landing. The scene reveals Mace’s return to Westeros and the mother-son duo joining Cersei’s small council, while confirming their plan to free Margaery (Natalie Dormer) and Loras (Finn Jones) from imprisonment. The scene was not strictly necessary for the movement of the plot, thus its exclusion from the episode. However, many fans rejoice at any chance to see Olenna Tyrell in action. The character’s no-nonsense attitude and witty sense of humor provide more than comic relief for the audience. Olenna has also commented on her “oaf” of a son more than once, and this scene does a great job at illuminating Mace’s childlike and simple personality.
The sixth season of Game of Thrones won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. Along with four deleted scenes with its Blu-Ray and DVD release, an in-depth look at the making of the Battle of Bastards, and a ton of other extras and audio commentaries will be included as well. Game of Thrones has been the top-selling TV series on home video for the past five years.
The show’s seventh season is currently in production and will premiere on HBO in the summer of 2017.
