The Game of Thrones Season 6 teaser trailer is here, and for only being 41 seconds long, it’s kind of a doozy. Here’s what happened:
“We watch. We listen. And we remember. The past is already written. The ink is dry.”
The three eye’d raven (or so I presume) speaks over a shot of Jon Snow, and then the flashbacks start playing.
Jon Snow’s murder at the hands of the Nights Watch.
Ned Stark’s decapitation on the steps of Balor’s Sept, while Arya is being saved.
Catelyn’s throat being slit at the Red Wedding.
Arya becoming blind.
Meera Reed fighting the dead.
Geoffry being poisoned at his wedding.
Robb Stark falls at the Red Wedding.
Jaime Lannister loses his hand.
Danaerys and Drogon looking down on the grass sea.
The Harpy falling.
The White Walker’s seize the son of Craster, and his eyes turn blue.
Jojen Reed’s sacrifice.
The wights breaking through the gate at Hardhome.
Cersei at the sept before her walk of shame.
Petyr kissing Sansa in the snow.
The king of the White Walkers.
The final scene of season 5, Jon Snow bleeding out at Castle Black.
Bran Stark’s face, eyes white and rolling back in his head, shows last, and then we hear his words. “They have no idea what’s going to happen.”
The whole trailer is punctuated by flashes of Ice being reforged: the symbolic representation of the state of the Stark family. Their family as it was, destroyed by the death of Ned, Catelyn, and Robb. However, Valeyrian steel is not so easily unmade. The steel is still good, but it has been reforged and divided. The Stark’s are still strong, but it seems they will have to make their own way until they find each other again.
For a trailer that shows nothing but flashbacks, it certainly gets you excited for the upcoming season. It’s kind of a “this is how far we’ve come together; this is the hell we’ve been through” and then it hits you with one last thought: “this is only the beginning”. With a story like season 5 to follow, season 6 promises to be over the top exciting and heart-wrenching.
April cannot come soon enough.
