General Zod to be in ‘Batman v Superman’ Says Michael Shannon

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice looks to be one of (if not the) biggest films of next year. Not only is it a sequel to the successful Man of Steel, but the inclusion of the biggest superhero of our day almost solidifies its place as 2016’s biggest movie. Continuing the trend of news and rumors coming out before the release, Michael Shannon has given some details on General Zod’s role in the upcoming film.

I would say spoilers for Man of Steel, but if you’ve seen the Batman v Superman trailer then you’ve seen this:

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice

Sorry, hope you had seen Man of Steel already. If you haven’t, Zod dies, and it looks as though Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor has gotten ahold of the Kryptonian’s body. Up until this point most thought Zod’s inclusion in the film would just be in the form of a corpse. Speaking to Vulture, Shannon let slip that he was on the set of the new film, participating in some capacity:

“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands”

So in one nonchalant comment to Vulture, Shannon just preemptively announced something that was not official: General Zod is in Batman v Superman. And it’s not just in the form of a dead body. He was on set, in his costume, with something on his hands. While some are wondering why he has flippers, its more obvious that there is going to be some cgi work in place of his hands.

How is Zod still alive? Is he going to become Doomsday? Has he become part dolphin? Vulture tried to get some more details on Shannon’s role in the film, asking about Zod’s brief appearance in the trailer (as seen above). Shannon’s response was:

“Well, I haven’t seen the trailer either, so I don’t know what I am in the trailer…I could be a toaster, or a Porsche, I don’t know.”

Wait what is going on? Did Michael Shannon just confirm Zod is part toaster, part Kyrptonion, part dolphin, and part product placement?!?! No, he didn’t. He did confirm that he is in the film, and he also confirmed he’s not as hyped on Batman v Superman details as the fans are. That’s understandable, we live for this stuff, and it is an exciting time to be a DC fan.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is scheduled for release on March 25, 2016.
