Most of you probably know this already, but just in case: George R. R. Martin is the mind behind the famous Game of Thrones HBO series. It’s based on his novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the next book due out in the series—a feeling aggravated by the fact that the TV series is officially ahead of the books.
George R. R. Martin said that he turned down the offer, despite his temptation, due to time restrictions. He’d have to travel all the way to Belfast to make an appearance, and he’s got enough on his plate as it is.
He’s been working on the next novel in the series, The Winds of Winter. The book has taken longer than fans expected—which is saying something, considering how long they’ve waited in the past. He made a promise to his fans that the book would be his main focus until it was finished. This was heartening news to many, since George R. R. Martin has a tendency to follow his muse towards other or side projects.
George R. R. Martin actually did film a cameo for Game of Thrones. He was to make an appearance during Daenerys’ wedding. It’s a scene he did actually film—however, it ended up being scrapped. The reason behind that decision is the change of actresses. The scene was filmed back when Tamzin Merchant was meant to play Daenerys, but obviously, when Emilia Clarke took over that changed quite a lot of things.
