Good Omens Released a Trailer, and It’s Amazing
Fans around the world rejoice as the trailer for Good Omens finally drops (make sure to check it out below). We’ve been waiting for ages for an adaptation to come out, and Amazon and BBC have finally made good on it.
For those that don’t know (which is likely only a small group of people) Good Omens is the brainchild of Neil Gaiman (American Gods, Coraline, The Sandman) and the late Terry Pratchett (The Color of Magic, Discworld). Good Omens is “a comedy about the birth of Satan, the coming of the End Times.” The story has multiple subplots, but mostly follows Crowly—a demon—and Aziraphale—an angel—as they attempt to sabotage the coming of the End Times, as they’ve grown to rather like living on Earth. Another subplot includes the birth and subsequent childhood of the Antichrist, while yet another involves the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The adaptation is intended to be a six-part miniseries. If that wasn’t enough to get you looking forward to the series, the fact that Neil Gaiman wrote each of the episodes should certainly do it. How many times have you watched a movie or TV adaptation of your favorite book, only to see it butchered? Maybe it isn’t safe to get our hopes up here, but it seems unlikely that Neil Gaiman will allow that to happen.
David Tennant (Doctor Who, Broadchurch, Jessica Jones) and Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex, The Queen) take on the lead roles. As evidenced in the trailer, they seem to be enjoying their characters. David Tennant has taken the role of Crowley, while Michael Sheen will be playing Aziraphale. Accompanying the two actors are Ilan Galkoff (playing Brian), Sam Taylor Buck (Adam Young), Simon Merrels (Lesley), and Lourdes Faberes (Pollution), among others.
The trailer shows they’ve put a lot of effort into capturing the absurd friendship and circumstances these two find themselves in. It’s fun, it’s silly, and they’ve got to save the world. But not because it’s the right thing to do or anything. It’s simply because they’ve grown to like the world and all the lovely amenities it comes with.
Good Omens will premiere in 2019. So far it hasn’t been narrowed down much further than that. In the meantime, fans will have to sit back and at least pretend to be patient.
