Disney Stops Pre-production of third Guardians of the Galaxy, Bautista continues to be vocal about Gunn firing
Disney and Marvel have decided to stop production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the time being. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is dismissing crew members who were assembling for pre-production, and those crew members “are free to look for new work.”
If James Gunn were still directing the movie, the crew members would have gone into full production mode by this fall. With Gunn no longer in the director’s chair, Marvel Studios has delayed the film.
James Gunn Fired From Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

James Gunn was let go from Disney and Marvel Studios after his old tweets resurfaced. Fans may have held out hope that Gunn could return to the franchise, but it seems unlikely. Disney chairman Alan Horn is sure that Gunn will not return.
As of right now, it is unclear if the production hold is temporary or permanent. One source for the Hollywood Reporter has characterized it as a “regrouping”. It is possible that Marvel could be looking for someone else to take over the third installment of the franchise.
Another source for the Hollywood Reporter said that Taika Waititi recently took a meeting with Marvel. Though it is unclear what that meeting was about. Disney and Marvel Studios will most likely dig deeper into each director before hiring them for a new project.
Gunn’s controversial firing has caused a lot of outrage. The cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise wrote an open letter asking Disney to rehire Gunn. Dave Bautista, who plays Drax the Destroyer, has been the most open about his view on Gunn’s firing. He recently called out Disney and the conservative who caused Gunn’s tweets to resurface on Twitter.
Disney has not commented on Gunn’s firing, Bautista’s tweets, or the future of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
