Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is available on digital release this coming Tuesday. I can’t think of a better way to commemorate the occasion than a spectacular, star-studded music video for the disco dance song, “Guardians Inferno,” which is from the official movie soundtrack, and also played over the movie’s end credits. The song was quite a stand-out on the movie soundtrack, “Awesome Mix Vol. 2,” as it was remarkably different from the “eight-track-era” tunes from the soundtracks of both of the Guardians movies that fans have gravitated to. Rolling Stone described the tongue-in-cheek song as “sort of Guardians take on Meco’s disco Star Wars theme.” Guardians director, James Gunn, who co-wrote the original song with score composer Tyler Bates, posted the lyrics of the song on his Twitter account back in April as the buzz for the song began to spread.

I’ve been dying to announce this, because it may be the greatest thing I’ve ever worked on, but there’s a #GuardiansInferno video coming with #GotGVol2 on home video. Available digitally on Aug. 8 and physically on Aug. 22. #marvel #music #film #instagood #love #hasselhoff #guardiansofthegalaxy
Gunn and the other Guardians actors have been teasing the music video on social media, posting behind the scenes photos and vintage-style posters for “David Hasslehoff and The Sneepers,” the fictional group that includes some of our favorite Guardians cast members dressed in flashy disco clothing, hair in Afro wigs, and dancing to this ridiculously catchy tune. James’ Brother, Sean, said, “I don’t want to exaggerate, but the Guardians Inferno video will be the most intense thing anyone has ever experienced in the history of the multiverse.”
Sean, I don’t disagree.
Watch Dave Bautista (Drax), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin, On Set Rocket), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu), Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star Lord), and even Guillermo Rodriguez (from Jimmy Kimmel Live!) in the music video, which is also available as a bonus feature on the home release. Of course, no Marvel Cinematic Universe production is complete without a Stan Lee cameo, so be sure to keep an eye out for our Marvel overlord.
The video is directed by David Yarovesky, longtime friend and collaborator of James Gunn, who also appears as the Goth Ravager in the first Guardians installment.
David Hasselhoff was an ideal choice for lead vocalist, as he was mentioned to be one of Peter Quill’s childhood heroes in Vol.2. While Hasselhoff had a brief cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it would be hard to argue that his talents weren’t much better utilized for the song and official music video for “Guardians Inferno.”
