Guardians of the Galaxy 3 to Be Released in 2020

James Gunn Announces Guardians of the Galaxy 3 Release Date

According to Cinema Blend, the third installment of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie series will rocket into theaters in 2020. When asked about the third movie’s release date on Twitter, director James Gunn announced yesterday, “Coming in 2020.”

Guardians of the Galaxy 2This is the first confirmation of the release date for the next Guardians film. The release comes after the Avengers’ battle with Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. Avengers 4 is on the schedule for release in 2019. There are two films on the schedule for Phase Four of the MCU along with the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.

With plot details being kept close to the chest for Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4, there’s no telling where the third entry of Guardians of the Galaxy will go. When it was announced the Guardians would share the screen with Marvel’s other heroes in Avengers: Infinity War, a lot of speculation brewed about how the Guardians would come to meet the Avengers. As the Infinity War trailer showed, Thor will run into the Guardians following the events of Thor: Ragnarok. Avengers 4 has just finished filming, so I’m sure Marvel is busy working on upcoming films.

Where Could Guardians 3 Go?

The Guardians will have to deal with the fallout of their battle with Thanos. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 revealed Peter Quill to be a Celestial. The death of Yondu will also be a personal conflict for Quill, as Yondu sacrificed himself to save the Guardians. The sequel further explored Yondu’s connection to Quill. Yondu becomes an adopted father to him after he takes Peter in to be a part of the Ravagers. Ego may have been Quill’s father, but he wasn’t his daddy.

We will get a clearer picture of the next adventures for the Guardians following the war with Thanos. Until then, we have a country to protect with Black Panther in Wakanda when his solo debut arrives next month.

Where would you like to see the next installment of Guardians of the Galaxy go? Furthermore, will any of our Guardians survive the impending conflict with Thanos? Sound off in the comments below!
