Solo Movie Title Officially Announced
The Han Solo entry in the Star Wars anthology has finally wrapped production this week. After director departures, the hiring of Ron Howard, and an extended filming period, this has not been smooth sailing. But now, after all this time, the long journey has been accomplished. Not only that, Howard took to Twitter to officially announce the title of the movie. So, what is it, Ron? Drumroll, please!

That was…predictable and underwhelming.
Red Solo Cup
Look, Ron, baby…the name just doesn’t…sing. First of all, it’s what everyone predicted, that or his full name. Secondly, it’s ho-hum. You guys obviously had more fun with the filming codename: Red Cup. For such a thrilling adventure, you should have come up with a name that was much more exciting. One friend of this reporter’s on Facebook suggested the title “The Kessel Run”, named after Han’s famed smuggling run. Another one that yours truly thought of was “Flight of the Falcon”, in a nod to a video game that centered around Han’s YT-1300 Corellian Transport.
Solo, while serviceable, just isn’t a very imaginative title. However, given the rough time this film had in being made, a simple title is the least of its worries.
A Bumpy Ride Through Hyperspace
Solo had a rocky time filming. Originally directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Lucasfilm fired them when they weren’t impressed with the dailies. Frequent George Lucas collaborator Howard took over the film, which was still in production and started basically from scratch. The film, starring Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, and Paul Bettany came together under Howard’s leadership and seems ready to take flight. Now it moves into the post-production phase, and soon into cinemas worldwide. Fans are already anticipating this next installment of the Star Wars Stories side franchise.
Solo premieres in theaters on May 25, 2018.
