Stranger Things-Themed Dungeons & Dragons Starter Pack Coming in May
The Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game Starter Set includes everything you need. It comes with a rule book, dice, character sheets, and more. The best part? It also includes the “Hunt for the Thessalhydra,” the campaign Mike Wheeler created and played with his friends in the first episode of the series.
History of Dungeons & Dragons
Dungeons & Dragons first appeared in 1974. Created by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, it’s a fantasy tabletop roleplaying game where players take on an adventure within the setting. A Dungeon Master (DM) manages the story and the inhabitants of the created world. The players interact with the DM as well as each other to complete quests. They can be as serious or silly as the DM or players desire.
Since its release, it has been a part of popular culture. While extremely popular in the ’70s and ’80s, the game has sort of been the epitome of the geek stereotype. It has sparked various parodies and humor. However, there are incredibly famous Dungeons & Dragons players, such as Stephen Colbert and Vin Diesel. Robin Williams also played while he was alive.
Stranger Things helped bring Dungeons & Dragons into the mainstream without making fun of its characters for playing.
Today, Wizards of the Coast (a subsidiary of Hasbro) publishes the game. They have published it since 1997.
