HBO Once Again Asks President Trump to Put an End to his Game of Thrones-Inspired Tweets
HBO had to fire back at President Donald Trump when he had a pretty surprising Game of Thrones-themed reaction to the release of the Mueller report. Trump tweeted a photo, using their font, writing, “No collusion. No obstruction. For the haters and the radical left Democrats – Game Over.” The premium cable network even reacted tweeting, “How do you say trademark misuse in Dothraki?”
“Though we can understand the enthusiasm for Game of Thrones now that the final season has arrived, we still prefer our intellectual property not be used for political purposes,” an HBO spokesman said in a statement.
As a result, Trump tweeted out a picture of himself in front of a foggy background, with GoT-style text proclaiming, “No collusion. No obstruction. For the haters and the radical left Democrats – Game over,” the network said in an email to Vanity Fair.
He’s Done It Before and He’ll Probably Do It Again
This is not the first time Trump has taken Game of Thrones‘ imagery to use on social media. Trump posted a previous tweet using the font to proclaim that “sanctions are coming”. This was off of the infamous line “winter is coming”. Despite the backlash from HBO and even some of the series’ stars, Trump ignored them and continued to use the poster, going as far as printing out a physical copy for a meeting in January.
President Trump’s fascination with the Game of Thrones imagery is ironic. Especially considering how outspoken George R.R. Martin is towards his election. “I think Joffrey is now the king in America,” Martin stated in 2017. “And he’s grown up just as petulant and irrational as he was when he was 12 in the books.”
Not sure if there is anything that really can be done, considering it is the President. Though it is probably safe to say that More Memes Are Coming.
