The Poisonwood Bible Is Getting the HBO Treatment
HBO just announced that it’ll be adapting the bestseller, The Poisonwood Bible. That’s great news for all us fans out there!
The Poisonwood Bible
The Poisonwood Bible was written by Barbara Kingsolver. The novel is set in postcolonial Africa where it follows an evangelical Baptist father as he takes his wife and daughters to the Belgian Congo. There they find that nothing is what they expected…not even the items they brought with them.
Nathan Price’s wife and four daughters are the main perspectives for the novel. The storytelling style receives praise to this day. It’s an enchanting tale full of rich characters and descriptions. It covers the absurd moments, the moments of love, and the bad moments, and brings it all together in one perfect novel.
The Poisonwood Bible has received nominations for many awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, for which it was a finalist.
There isn’t a lot of news out yet about the adaptation. We know that HBO landed the deal, and that the Bond Group Entertainment will be handling the filming. Amy Adams and Stacy O’Neil are the executive producers.
Production hasn’t officially begun yet—in fact, it’s likely that the ink is still drying on the rights purchased. So we don’t yet know who will be writing the screenplay, which is a vital piece of information that we’re missing. I can’t wait to see who they’ll end up casting for the roles. Anybody want to start theorizing now?
Together with Stacy O’Neil, Amy Adams formed the Bond Group Entertainment. HBO was the first one to jump at the opportunity, getting the company to sign a deal with them. The Bond Group is now signed on for several projects with HBO, many of which have not been officially announced (but we’ll probably be hearing something soon).
