Henry Golding Maybe G.I. Joe’s “Snake Eyes”

Henry Golding Could Be the G.I. Joe Ninja

According to Variety Henry Golding of Crazy Rich Asians fame could be the next Snake Eyes. Casting rumors have him at the forefront for the silent Ninja’s spin-off film. Not much is known about the film right now besides Robert Schwentke will be directing the film. Will it be a direct spinoff from the most recent Joe films? Will Henry Golding have a speaking part? Or will they take a bit from A Quiet Place and go all silent like the classic G.I. Joe #21 comic book featuring Snake Eyes?

As noted in the Variety article Hasbro may be trying to do a soft reboot of the G.I. Joe films as they did with Bumblebee last year for the Transformers. This could work well as Snake Eyes has always been one if not the most popular GI Joes. It has been a little while since the last Joe film G.I. Joe: Retaliation in 2013. Which featured Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Bruce Willis and most notably Bobby Digital, Bobby Steels, Prince Dynamite himself yes the Wu-Tang Clans the RZA as The Blind Master of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow!

This wouldn’t be a bad idea to give Snake Eyes a little spotlight. I mean everybody likes Ninjas and there is a lot you can do with his character. I mean who isn’t going to see a movie with a ninja with a pet wolf? Would we get an origin story of Snake Eyes? I mean if you are casting Henry Golding you are not going to want to have him covered by a mask the whole time. Ray Park portrayed Snake-Eyes in the previous two films so it looks like they are going in a little bit of a different direction.

Again the film could not acknowledge anything about the previous two films and just be a reboot of the franchise. But there are also rumors of a third G.I. Joe film titled Ever Vigilant that is supposed to be in development. So, this Snake Eyes film may be an origin story for the character. Nobody really knows for sure yet. Let us just hope they keep the RZA on board for the rest of these films!

Do you think Henry Golding will make a good Snake Eyes? How do you think the solo film will fit in with the other G.I. Joe films? Let us know in the comments.
