John Winchester Returns

Last month, Jeffrey Dean Morgan announced he will return to the long-running CW show, Supernatural. He is set to appear in the show’s 300th episode, a huge milestone. Apparently, it will be a huge milestone for the characters as well.

The History of John

The Winchester’s father was the main plotline of the show’s first two seasons. Dean’s iconic, “Dad’s on a hunting trip. And he hasn’t been home in a few days” line was the inciting incident of the show. Fans will recall that when the family was reunited, John struck a deal with a demon to save Dean’s life. He only appeared once later that season, when his ghost assisted in defeating the Yellow-Eyed Demon.

How The Return Will Happen

Producer Andrew Dabb told Entertainment Weekly more details about how exactly John will re-reunite with his sons. He explained that the cause is the guys are in a place to have a wish granted.

“They’re actually expecting something else, but [John’s return] comes from a place of want by Dean,” Dabb said. “The need  for closure is really what brings John back into their lives.”

Of course, because it’s Supernatural, it’s not going to be that easy. The situation also brings back Zachariah, and angel with a rather complex relationship with the Winchester guys. So, there’s that drama to look forward to as well!

The Actors Thoughts

According to Morgan, both Sam and Dean get one-on-one time with their father to get their closure. “The relationships between these three men were so open, so if I was going to come back it would be nice to have some closure, especially with Sammy,” he said.

Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam, said, “The episode gives Sam a chance to forgive.”

Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean, says for his character, it’s something that is too good to be true. “For Dean, the whole episode is a dream he doesn’t want to wake up from,” he said. “But he knows he has to.”

The episode premieres on Thursday, February 7th on the CW.
