On June 9th at the 44th annual AFI Life Achievement Award Gala held in Los Angeles, John Williams was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award. His contribution to film is incalculable, with the maestro scoring such iconic films as Jaws, Harry Potter, and Superman. Better known perhaps, and instantly recognizable are his scores for Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and fans of those two franchises were greeted with a happy announcement from the red carpet Friday night when the news broke that Williams will return to score both Indiana Jones 5 and Star Wars VIII.
The Maestro Returns to the Podium for a New Voyage to that Galaxy Far Far Away…
Williams confirmed to Variety that he was committed to scoring Star Wars VIII if he is able:
“If I can do it, I certainly will. I told Kathy Kennedy I’m happy to do it, but the real reason is, I didn’t want anybody else writing music for Daisy Ridley.”
Rian Johnson wrote and directed the next installment in the Star Wars series, Star Wars: Episode VIII which is currently in the process of principal filming.
John Williams Said to Ride Again with Indy!
There it is folks! The man himself, John Williams will be back composing epic strains for two of the world’s biggest franchises. Look for Star Wars: Episode VIII, starring: Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis as well as Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro and Academy Award nominee Laura Dern. The film is slated to premiere on December 15, 2017.
The yet untitled Indiana Jones 5 sees both Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg returning to the franchise. David Koepp is writing the script with the film set for a July 19, 2019 debut. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce.
