Whether it be J.K. Simmons talking about how Commissioner Gordon will be interacting with various superheroes or Zack Snyder taking to Twitter to release a new Batman image, there is a lot of attention on 2017’s Justice League. Though we know the cast is huge, featuring characters and side-characters from six DC franchises (Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman, Superman), there was a question as to how many cameos/easter egg appearances there would be. After various rumors and speculations, it is now confirmed that Jared Leto’s Joker will not be appearing in the film.
Known for his correct superhero “scoops,” The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez took to Twitter to debunk the rumor:
Sorry DC fanboys. Yesterday’s rumor that surfaced about Jared Leto being in JUSTICE LEAGUE? Unfortunately, not true. #DEADED

Too Crowded For The Joker
Though it may seem odd to make a news story about a character NOT appearing in a film, it is important to keep some perspective. Whether it be the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the DC Extended Universe or the various Star Wars episodic and spin-off films, we have the tendency to expect a little too much from these films. Though both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad featured some world-building easter eggs and cameos that were fun, the entirety of Justice League is essentially one big easter egg. While Suicide Squad teased the hypothetical existence of the superhero team, 2017’s epic will be an entire movie about the team.
Just as a reminder, let’s take a look at the official synopsis for Justice League:
“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
There is a lot going on in Justice League, it is good news that The Joker will not be involved. Right now it is uncertain when Leto’s character will make his next appearance. We now know that Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke will be the villain in the 2018 solo Batman movie, but it is very possible for Leto to have a supporting role/cameo in that film. What do you guys think? Where would be the best place for The Joker to show up in? Let us know in the comments below!
Justice League will hit theaters on November 17, 2017.
