According to Variety, Cyborg now has a place in the Doom Patrol. The part of Cyborg, also known as Victor Stone, went to Jovian Wade. Cyborg is now another DC character with both a movie and TV iteration. If you’ll recall, Cyborg is played by Ray Fisher on the silver screen.

Doom Patrol is one of the series DC has ordered for their upcoming streaming service DC Universe. It’s a spin-off of the originally-announced Titans.

What’s Cyborg Doing in Doom Patrol?

The fact that Cyborg will be in this series at all is fairly controversial. In the comics, Cyborg doesn’t have anything to do with the Doom Patrol. He’s actually a member of the Teen Titans, who are getting their own show on the DC Universe streaming service. However, Cyborg is not a member of the Titans in that show, for reasons unknown. Cyborg will fulfill part of the role of Dr. Niles Caulder, who has already also been cast. He’s the one who brings the Doom Patrol together. He seems redundant here, and it’s not clear why he won’t be joining Titans‘ main cast. Doom Patrol will cross over with Titans, but that’s not the same thing as casting Cyborg in Titans in the first place.

Other members of the Doom Patrol will be played by Diane Guerrero (Crazy Jane), April Bowlby (Elasti-Girl), Dwain Murphy (Negative Man) and Bruno Bichir (Niles Caulder).

Here’s the series’ official description:

[Doom Patrol is] a reimagining of one of DC’s strangest group of outcasts: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Woman and Crazy Jane. Led by the mysterious Dr. Niles Caulder they’re called into action by the ultimate hero for the digital age, Cyborg. Banding together these rejects find themselves on a mission that will take them to the weirdest and most unexpected corners of the DC universe.

Doom Patrol will materialize on the upcoming DC Universe streaming service at some point in 2019. Titans, DC Universe’s first streaming show, will be available in fall 2018.

What do you think about this casting/writing decision? Do you think you will subscribe to the DC Universe streaming service? Talk about it in the comments
