Kaley Cuoco Shows a First Look at The Joker in the New DC Series on Instagram
DC Universe’s upcoming animated series, Harley Quinn, stars Kaley Cuoco (of The Big Bang Theory) in the titular role. Last week, she posted on Instagram a picture from the recording booth where her followers could see a screenshot from the show. It included The Joker, whose design was, until then, a mystery. In the shot, The Joker has ahold of Harley Quinn, but you can clearly see his face.
From what Cuoco’s picture reveals, the design of this classic character is going back to his roots. It seems to be a throwback to the earlier DC comics, with some influence from the Super Friends animated series of the ’70s and ’80s as well. His white face is long, with a prominent chin. The staples of red lips, green hair, and a purple suit are present as well. It’s a Joker both old and new fans will appreciate.
Alan Tudyk (of Firefly and Doom Patrol) will voice The Joker. He follows the legendary Mark Hamill, who played the villain in Batman: The Animated Series. Tudyk told comicbook.com the difference is that the target audience for Harley Quinn is adults, instead of children, and that helps him to make the role more his own in Hamill’s shadow.
Harley Quinn will portray a Harley who is independent of The Joker and attempting to be the criminal in charge in Gotham City all on her own. The Joker will obviously make appearances, and so will fan favorite Poison Ivy. Heroes and villains across the DC universe will appear as well.
Other stars joining the cast are Lake Bell (Wet Hot American Summer), Ron Funches (Powerless), JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm) Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Wanda Sykes (Black-ish), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Natalie Morales (Bojack Horseman), Jim Rash (Mike Tyson Mysteries), Diedrich Bader (Veep), Tony Hale (Veep), and Chris Meloni (Law & Order: SVU).
