Kickstarter Campaign: Not So Super Comic

Not So Super is a comic written by Jacques Nyemb and illustrated by Joe Hunter. The comic is about a seemingly normal guy called Daniel Douglas, who is in his 30’s, single, and works a 9-5 job within an IT corporation. Our bachelor leads a pretty typical life, until one day his life takes an unexpected turn down an interesting path. He develops super powers. However, they appear and disappear at random and they are not making his life any easier.

The first issue was sent to me in an email for me to look at while I traveled around England and it was a pleasure to read. It is well paced with added bits of humour that most people can relate to, his narrative isn’t thick with text but quick, witty, and easy to follow. There is a good starting point that shows how ordinary Daniel’s life was before he mysteriously gained super powers and eases us into the transition. His first superpower seems to come to light during a board meeting. The artwork seems to fit the story well, it isn’t painfully detailed and gives the comic a more relaxed feel. It is definitely something that you can kick back and enjoy on a sunny afternoon without having to think too hard. Jacques Nyemb and Joe Hunter work well together and this is a comic book that would suit most ages and certainly would be a good start for those who want to get into comics.Daniel standing in a hero pose with the narrative "showtime"

To get this comic fully on track there will be a Kickstarter campaign that will be used to help raise funds to keep paying Joe Hunter to do a graphic novel version of this project as they feel it would be far more cost effective to have a singular book rather than several. Personally, I think that is a good idea.

These awesome guys are keen on getting others involved too. They are giving away free digital copies of the comic for any artist who submits a piece of fan art. They’ll share it on Facebook and tumblr, this is a great way to get recognition for any of you striving to get into that field of work. They have also said that if the piece of fan art becomes popular enough to turn into prints they are open to negotiate compensation for their work. How lovely is that?

The Kickstarter campaign hasn’t begun yet but here’s the teaser trailer to get you inspired:

So, go take a look at their facebook, get doodling, and get involved the best you can. It is a light-hearted, easy-reading comic that is suitable for almost anyone.
