Kickstarter Hot Picks – November 16-30, 2017
Kickstarter is the world’s largest crowdfunding platform for creative projects. For the first half of 2017, 24% of the money raised by successful projects on Kickstarter was from the Tabletop Games category. There’s no doubt that Kickstarter has been a serious driving force in the content being supplied in the board gaming industry.
In the latest roundup of Kickstarter Hot Picks, we run a 1920s speakeasy, lead a small community of post-apocalyptic survivors, rule a fantastic forest kingdom, and have a tea party with monsters!
Speakeasy Blues, by Artana LLC, is a light-to-medium weight dice placement game where 2-4 players run a 1920s speakeasy with celebrities, cops, gangsters, bootleg hooch, flappers, bling, sweet jazz, and more!
Speakeasy Blues is the latest Kickstarter from Daryl Andrews and Adrian Adamescu, the designers of Sagrada, the successful dice-drafting and window-crafting project from earlier this year. Speakeasy Blues takes players back to the New York City of the Roaring Twenties, where they run competing gin joints, vying to be the talk of the town.
Run your own speakeasy in 1920s New York City, competing to build the best gin joint in town. Roll the bones and stake your claims. Choose a pair of dice from the dice pool to take available actions: throw a soirée, entice celebrities, build collections, recruit cops and gangsters, play sweet jazz, bootleg hooch, and more! Make your mark by adding Society, Collections, and Crime cards to your speakeasy for special abilities, and create your particular engine – no two games will be alike, and multiple paths for victory ensure replay value!
The game is rich in history. Everything in Speakeasy Blues, from the gin joints to its people, things, and places were actually part of the pulsing, feel-good world of Jazz Age New York City. Immerse yourself in this fabulous place and time and let the 20s roar again! The Sweet Sugar Pledge of $49 gets a copy of Speakeasy Blues and all Stretch Goals.

Badlands: Outpost of Humanity
Many years have passed since the devastating nuclear war destroyed great civilizations and changed the climate on the planet dramatically. The world was turned into a desert with but lonely radioactive ruins of cities left. Massive usage of biological and nuclear weaponry during the war led to many people and animals being turned into horrifying monsters.
Badlands: Outpost of Humanity, by Jet Games Studios, is a strategic board game in a post-apocalyptic world. The few survivors who managed to make it through “The Last War” have joined together in clans and established small settlements in this new world.
Players lead a small community of post-nuclear survivors struggling for their lives, undertaking distant expeditions, and exploring abandoned locations. Develop trade and attack enemies, protect settlements, and fight for influence to secure a corner in the ruthless world of Badlands!
Badlands is for 2-4 players of 14+ years old. One game takes about 60-120 minutes to play.

Mortals: Descent of the Gods
The world is coming to an end… you and your fellow once-gods are being called out of ambiguity to fight Death and unlock his secrets within the walls of this museum. Can you halt the engine of Earth’s destruction?
Mortals: Descent of the Gods, by Partial Arc, is a cooperative board game set in a museum in modern times. Play as Greek, Norse, and Egyptian gods that have been made Mortal by Death himself. Now they live mundane lives; for example, Zeus is an electrician, Poseidon is a beach bum and Freya is a lawyer. But Death hasn’t finished his work… he now sets his sights on humanity and plans to destroy the world. To stop him, our heroes must work together and battle through hordes of monsters such as: Death’s Minions (like ghouls and liches), Mythics (like the Hydra), and Destroyers (like the Kraken).
Jay Jones, Niels-Christian Kielland, and Andrew Dickinger are founders of Portal Arc, a network for board gaming, roleplaying games, and comics. They provide several weekly podcasts (Friday Night Quests, Dark Heresy, 40K Arena, Roll to Seize, and Because Comics), and now bring their passion for the fantasy genre to the board game world.
“Whether you’ve always wanted to explode a Troll with the power of rock music or enjoy the excitement of combat and strategy games (with a hint of humor), we’re confident you’ll find something to love,” said Jones, Kielland, and Dickinger in a statement.

Epic Monster Tea Party
A 20-minute, family-fun, fantasy tabletop game about monsters making a tasty tea full of victory points out of heroes!
Epic Monster Tea Party, by Playco Games, is a simple, family-friendly tabletop game that can be played in about 20 minutes with 2-4 players. While adults may be playing for points, kids seem to have more fun squishing the heroes and using their special abilities to spill, steal, or trade teacups with the other players.
You play Epic Monster Tea Party as one of the thirsty monsters. Each monster takes turns blindly snatching heroes out of the labyrinth (aka – the black bag.) These heroes serve two purposes; you may choose to either drop them into your teacup for a chance to earn victory points by drinking them, or you can squish them to use their special ability.
Once all of the heroes have been plucked from the labyrinth, each monster finishes drinking their tea, counts the victory points in their stomach, and the one with the highest score may belch and rejoice, for they are the winner!
The Tea Maker Pledge of $30 gets you one copy of Epic Monster Tea Party, all unlocked stretch goals, and free shipping within the United States.
Would you like to try the game first? Playco Games offers a FREE Print & Play copy of the game.
