Leslie Jones Slams Ghostbusters 3

Ghostbusters Feature

Leslie Jones Tweeted Her Disapproval of New Ghostbusters Film

Last week, producer Ivan Reitman and director Jason Reitman announced Ghostbusters 3, a movie that follows the original two films. They also released a teaser trailer to build excitement.

Leslie Jones, who starred in the reboot of Ghostbusters in 2016, took to Twitter to express her disappointment. She wrote (pardon the language) “So insulting. Like fuck us. We dint count. It’s like something Trump would do. (Trump voice) ‘Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers” ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give a fuck I’m saying something!!”

Response

The responses to Jones’s tweet were varied. But there was an agreement that she was being unfair too early and reminded her that the initial reception to her reboot was just as aggressive. And most said that the reboot was objectively not as good. Some even accused her of negating the work of everyone who worked on the originals to make them classics by making this statement. There was even a little shade thrown at Sony for allegedly keeping Jason Reitman out! Despite his praise of the film!

Also, although little is known plot-wise about this movie, we do know there is a whole new group of Ghostbusters. Two boys and two girls. There are rumors that Bill Murray and Dan Akyroyd will be back as well. Some pointed out that this is a chance for young actors – of any gender – to take on roles in a legendary franchise. Personally, I do think Leslie should have considered this before saying what she did. A lot of expectations already sit on these young actors’ shoulders, and to have Leslie freaking Jones put them down before they even got a chance is just mean.

My Final Thoughts

I love Leslie on SNL, and I love what she stands for. In a way, I understand she feels this negates the work of all the women who worked hard on the reboot. I just think it’s not that deep. It’s just hard to believe they made Ghostbusters 3 just to spite the actresses in the reboot and all the women who liked it.

Ghostbusters 3 will premiere in summer 2020.
