About Linkxen Cosplay
I’m a gamer, Zelda nerd, and all-around weirdo who loves to make things and make new friends. I like to learn more about the cosplay community as well as branch out and learn new things about new anime, games, and other nerd fandoms.
How did you first get into cosplay?
After playing A Link to the Past as a kid, I’ve always wanted to explore Hyrule as and I got my first costume my mom made me of Link. Then years later I got my first sewing machine and started a new passion for creativity.
Do you cosplay just for fun or do you see it as a stepping stone to a future career?
I love doing this for fun but overall would be pretty amazing if I could turn it into a career.
Do you prefer to make your cosplays from scratch, buy or commission them, or a hybrid?
I make some from scratch but I’ve also bought some and altered it to my own sizing as well or modified it a bit to make it unique to me.
How much time do you spend making each of your cosplays?
Depending on the level of detail it came be between a weekend or months
What is your favorite cosplay you have done so far?
My favorite has got to be my Link cosplay from Ocarina of Time.
What has been your most memorable experience as a cosplayer?
Going to my first con and showing off my Link cosplay and just seeing kids and other cosplayers get excited on not only my cosplay but as well as me getting excited for theirs. Also meeting new friends and going to a fun group to hang out with as well.
How do you feel about group cosplays?
I love them. This gives each cosplayer a chance to show off their own creative outlook on the character in that group and bring that group to life as well.
What cosplays are you currently working on or plan to finish this year?
Honestly too many to count but I am working on a few My Hero cosplays as well as some anime cosplays from Konosuba and Sailor Moon.
What issues do you see as being the most divisive in the cosplay community and how do you feel about it?
Just that when people think your a different race, sex, or size that you can’t cosplay. I say do whatever character you want. It’s your right to show your creativity off in your own way.
What types of characters or genres inspire your cosplay the most?
I usually like the hero type of character. Sometimes I’m not the most courageous person so I look up to these characters and I can also become brave myself. In or out of cosplay.
What is your favorite part (researching, shopping for supplies, sewing, photoshoots, attending cons, etc.) of your cosplay process?
It mainly the planning part in the beginning and once that cosplay becomes a reality at the end, all the blood, sweat, and tears make it all worth it.
What are your best resources for cosplay materials?
I love going to Joann’s or Hobby Lobby. They have such a great selection to choose from and also coupons that I can use as well.
What has been the biggest obstacle you have had to overcome as a cosplayer?
Stepping outside my comfort zone. Doing characters I’m not usually doing (anything besides Zelda related) but I’m branching out and taking my anime fandom and making my favorite characters come to life.
Have you learned any life lessons during your time as a cosplayer and what are they?
That nothing has to be perfect and no cosplay is going to be the exact same.
What is your golden cosplay rule that you would share with new cosplayers?
Don’t stress yourself on the small details or trying to make it perfect. Your cosplay is super unique cause it’s made or bought for you. You can cosplay whoever or whatever you want and wear that cosplay proud. 🙂
How do you feel the cosplay community has changed over time?
I feel that cosplay has become more known and has become pretty popular. It makes it great for people to interact with other fans and also help one another out with tips and tricks in the cosplay community.
If money and time were not a factor, what is your number one over-ambitious cosplay you want to do?
Pretty much any character from Sword Art Online. All versions of Asuna as well as the other main characters.
Do you set a budget for each cosplay?
Sometimes, but I also try to see if there is any way I can cut costs or learn to make things on my own if possible.
What does cosplay mean to you?
Being able to bring your character to life and showing it off to the world.
How do you see the cosplay community 10 years from now?
Still growing and giving many people a chance to branch out and make new friends as well.
What is your favorite con to attend?
The latest one I’ve been to and would love to go back to would be San Japan in San Antonio, TX.
Is there another cosplayer who inspires you or is your role model?
My good friend, CurlyQ cosplay, Leon Chiro, and Yaya Han.
Do you consider yourself an inspiration to other cosplayers?
I would hope so. I love the Cosplay community.
What advice would you give someone about meeting cosplayers and taking their pictures? How do you like to be approached?
Just approach them nicely and ask politely to take their pics.
What is one thing you wish your fans knew about you?
That I’m an awkward gamer who is pretty much obsessed with anything having to with the Legend of Zelda series.
Is there anything that would make you stop cosplaying?
No. Nothing at all.
