There is no shortage of TV shows adapted from comic books, especially DC Comics. With Gotham, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and The Flash, many feel as though DC works better on the small screen than the big (all three DC Extended Universe films have been met with a split consensus). This fall SyFy will get into the DC game with their Superman prequel series Krypton, and they have found their leading lady in Georgina Campbell.
Campbell, who won a BAFTA for her performance in Murdered by My Boyfriend, will play Lyta Zod. The Kyrpton series will take place two generations before Kal-El is born, telling the story of Seg-El (Superman’s grandfather) as he tries to bring honor back to the El name. Though the direct relation has not been made known yet, we can assume that Lyta will be directly related to the Superman nemesis General Zod.
Seg-El has yet to be cast, but as the El looks to establish his house’s greatness, he and Lyta will share a forbidden romance. As Deadline reports:
“Campbell’s Lyta Zod is a member of Krypton’s military caste and the daughter of a general, Alura Zod. Lyta Zod serves as a cadet — and has also been having a clandestine, forbidden romance with Seg-El (not cast yet).”
‘Krypton’ Expands the Superman Mythos
The series is being developed by David Goyer (screenwriter for The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman), and will be filming its pilot in Serbia this Fall (a Summer/Fall 2017 premiere date is expected). We now have Superman on the CW (making his debut this Fall on Season 2 of Supergirl) and now we will learn his family’s history on SyFy.
