It’s been a banner year for the Man of Steel! Not only is it the 75th anniversary of Superman’s creation, it was announced earlier this week that Warner Brothers is putting the Man of Steel sequel on the fast-tack. This should come as no surprise considering the anticipatory buzz surrounding Man of Steel, which premiered this week. Early reviews were overwhelmingly positive and many industry insiders are projecting that Man of Steel could exceed 300 million dollars in domestic sales.
While it has been confirmed that director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer are reprising their roles for the sequel it is unclear if the Man of Steel‘s Godfather, Christopher Nolan, is returning. Rumor has it if Nolan is involved with the Superman franchise, it will be a softer touch as he is working on other projects.
Regardless, this seems like a step in the right direction for WB and DC Comics, who have been struggling to build a cohesive identity when it comes to their comic book franchises. While we can’t say this means that a Justice League movie is a lock, we can say a successful Man of Steel and fast-tracked sequel indicates that WB is becoming confident with the DC movie franchises.
So until the next big announcement, let’s talk about who the next big bad will be in the sequel. My bet is on Brainiac!
