Marvel Reveals the Wasp Uniform for Ant-Man Sequel

Marvel Fans Get a Sneak Peek of the Wasp’s Uniform

“It’s about damn time,” said Hope Pym in the 2015 Marvel film Ant-Man. These words ring true for what all Ant-Man fanatics around the world were thinking when Marvel released a photographic teaser for the upcoming film Ant-Man and the Wasp. The photo portrays the uniforms not only for Ant-Man but also for his new ally, the Wasp. This is an exciting reveal for fans.  This is only the second time we’ve seen Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lily) wearing her outfit. It is also the first time we’ve seen her standing alongside Ant-Man (Paul Rudd).

In the comic book series, the Wasp is Janet van Dyne, Hope’s mother. As we learned in 2015’s Ant-Man, Janet van Dyne was an original founding member of the Avengers. She sacrificed herself during a mission to diffuse a missile and is now stuck in a state of permanent shrinkage. Hope will take Janet’s place as the Wasp in the upcoming film, but rumors say that Janet herself (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) will also return.

Ant-Man and the WaspHope’s uniform ventures away a bit from the comic book version of the Wasp suit. In the comics, the Wasp uniform underwent several iterations. Most of the time, the uniform was much more feminine and either red or gold. It also had short sleeves. We got a short glimpse of Janet’s Wasp uniform in Ant-Man. It aligned fairly well with the comic book version, with its short sleeves and gold coloring. However, as we see in the photo release, Hope’s costume is a full body suit.

The Wasp’s new suit is quite similar to Ant-Man’s uniform. It is now more of a blue coloring rather than the red or gold from the comics. In addition to these changes, the original Wasp costume also included wings (which we saw in the clip of Janet’s costume in Ant-Man). For whatever reason, Hope’s version leaves these out. Not everything about the new uniform is different, though. Hope’s helmet gives a nod to the original helmet with its antennae.

Stay tuned ‘til July 6, 2018, when we will be able to see these Marvel uniforms in action!
