Adventure into Fear
It seems Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Helstrom shows have been branded under a new and very interesting title of Adventure into Fear. Newsarama notes that Adventure into Fear was a 70’s Marvel Comic that mostly focused on stories of Man-Thing and Morbius “the living Vampire”. Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb has noted that “We always knew that we were going to do something with Ghost Rider, we were just waiting for the right place to put it. Then we started having the same conversation, which was there is in the comic book world the Spirit of Vengeance, and they are this sort of unusual group of characters, which involve Ghost Rider, which involves Helstrom, which involve Helstrom’s sister, Anna,” Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb told Deadline. “We suddenly saw that there were three or four shows that we could put together that we now refer to as ‘Adventure into Fear’.”
Three or Four
Probably, one of the most interesting aspects of what Loeb says is that phrase of “three or four shows”. Now we know two of them are Ghost Rider and Helstrom coming to Hulu. But with them now going under the Adventure into Fear banner, there is a wealth of possibilities for other shows. Obviously, Man-Thing could be a consideration being he was a character mainly spotlighted in the comic title. But Marvel has many “darker” characters that could fit the bill.
I have been hearing a lot of rumblings about a possible Moon Knight announcement coming up soon. He is a character that could fit in well with Ghost Rider and Helstrom. Plus he fits the television shows model a little better than maybe a movie. Moon Knight could also lead into a wider Marvel supernatural universe with Khonshu and possible Werewolf by Night appearance.
Talking about a wider supernatural universe Elsa Bloodstone could also be one of the shows. The famed Monster Hunter would obviously fit right in with these other characters. She could also bring in a host of other supernatural Marvel characters as well. She could also lead into a Legion of Monsters show that would be amazing!
Maybe even a bigger question that has yet to be answered is will the Hulu shows be connected to the MCU at large at all? It is well documented at this years SDCC that the Marvel shows premiering on Disney+ will directly affect the future of the MCU. We do not know yet if this is the same for the shows coming to Hulu.
Now Disney does own a majority stake in Hulu and just recently announced that when Disney+ launches November 12, 2019, you can package together Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+. That doesn’t mean the Hulu shows will be connected to the MCU but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to boost the subscribers to Hulu with that incentive.
If the Hulu properties do connect to the MCU then we can definitely aspect Blade to have a big effect as well with this Adventure into Fear series. The last big announcement at SDCC this year was that Mahershala Ali would play Blade in the MCU. That is all we know about Blade in the MCU. With D23 coming up at the end of August maybe we will get some answers to these questions?
What Marvel characters would you like to see get a show under the Adventure into Fear line? Do you think they will connect with the larger MCU or be in their own Universe? Let us know in the comments.
