Marvel Studios is Set to Produce a Behind the Scenes Video of All Stan Lee’s Cameos
Stan Lee was the cameo king of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has passed, but his legend lives on. Luckily for the fans, Marvel has compiled all the cameos, along with behind the scenes footage of their production. They plan to release it, probably as an extra when Avengers: Endgame is out on DVD and available for digital purchase.
The tradition of Stan Lee cameos began in 2008 with Iron Man, which was also the birth of the MCU. The scene had Lee at a Stark event, on the red carpet outside a concert hall. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) mistakes Lee for Hugh Hefner. It’s hilarious, just like all the cameos that followed. It stretched all the way through Avengers: Endgame, which is, of course, a posthumous cameo, and it will be his last (it was also posthumous in Captain Marvel). He even appeared in Marvel TV shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, and Luke Cage.
It will also include a deleted cameo from the first Avengers where Captain America gets flak from Stan Lee outside a cafe.
The Studio’s Statement
“We’ve put a video together,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to EW in a roundtable with the original six Avengers. “We’ve never done this before, a behind-the-scenes of every cameo. All the B-Roll that was shot and his stand-ups there. His passing was very emotional for all of us, but it suddenly all came back to me just when I watched it.”
Each of the actors had a memory to share about Stan Lee. Whether on set or at a premiere, they got to meet with and talk to him.
“The amazing thing is, as you’ve all just said, he said the right thing to the right person at all times,” Feige said. “Every interaction was what one’s dream interaction with Stan Lee would be.”
Feige also said he held on to a voicemail Lee left him dating back to 2004. “I’d never gotten a voicemail from Stan Lee, and I kept it for years and years, until I think the phone disintegrated,” he said. “But it was: ‘Fearless Feige! Stan Lee here…’ I listened to it over and over and over. That’s what he was always like, always supportive.”
I have personally enjoyed Stan Lee’s amazing cameos, and look forward to the compilation!
