Microsoft did not pull any punches with their E3 press conference. Setting the bar for the show was the opening announcement of the new Xbox One S. This new slimmer version of the console will come with a newly designed controller, have larger storage capacities and will be available in August 2016. But Microsoft was just getting started. They followed this with new games and the innovative Xbox Play Anywhere, which allows you to purchase the game once and play it on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.
Microsoft Gears Up For War
Gears Of War 4 was announced at E3 2015. Since then, not a whole lot has been seen from the game. A live gameplay demo was shown on stage that showed off just how good this game is going to be. The run and gun action fans love about the series will be that much more fun with the announcement of a Gears Of War 4 edition Xbox One Elite controller. This game is coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 PC on October 11, 2016. Check out the Gears of War 4 Co-op Gameplay Demo below.
Killer Instinct is got a 3rd Season earlier this year. General Raam from the Gears Of War series will be joining the character roster soon.
Forza Horizon 3
The Forza series is possibly the most popular racing series in the Microsoft library. Forza Horizon 3 shows the series has not gone stale with more realistic graphics and a multiplayer drop-in feature. This driving simulator game looks to be the best of the series so far.
A short gameplay trailer was shown to let us know that ReCore has not been forgotten and is coming September 13, 2016.
Final Fantasy XV
A massive boss battle was the scene for the live gameplay demo of Final Fantasy XV. Controlling three characters simultaneously looks like it will keep players on their toes in this real-time strategy RPG that will be released September 30, 2016.
The open world sandbox of Minecraft has always had its fans in mind with expansions. Today was no different as they showed off many new features. Cross-platform play in Minecraft Realms allows players to unite no matter what platform they play on, including iOS devices and VR. On a personal note, I have not been very excited about the VR scene, but Minecraft in VR has got me very excited! Realms is available this week to try for free and more new features will be shown off at MineCon in September.
With the launch of the Xbox Design Lab, we can finally create our own officially licensed Xbox controllers with custom color combinations.
The Indie Games
Microsoft showed off a large number of indie games that are grouped together in a trailer. There are so many great titles to look forward to like the spiritual successor to the Banjo Kazooie series, Yooka-Laylee. There was also a demo for We Happy Few, which has a Bioshock Inifinite look to it. Then there was Gwent, a multiplayer card strategy game based on The Witcher series. While many of these games do not have official release dates yet, it is exciting to see what we have to look forward to in the future.
This was leaked a couple days before the show, but Tekken 7 is confirmed and coming to Xbox One in early 2017. Along with this came the announcement that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available for free to all Xbox Live Gold members this week.
Dead Rising 4
Frank West makes his glorious return in Dead Rising 4. The trailer has a familiar look of the original Dead Rising and with the backing track of “Jingle Bell Rock,” it looks like it is going to be a Red Christmas this year.
Scalebound is a third person action adventure game. Currently slated for 2017, it should be on your games to watch list. Learn more about Scalebound on Platinum Games website.
Sea Of Thieves
Announced at E3 in 2015, Sea Of Thieves is back with a new gameplay trailer. This is Rare’s first non-Kinect game since being purchased by Microsoft in 2002. The trailer shows off beautiful locations and gameplay that only Rare is capable of bringing to the table. When this game comes out, it will be a pirate’s life for me!
Halo Wars 2
Following the leak days before E3, Halo Wars 2 delivered a trailer showing off new locations, vehicles and enemies. With a release date of February 17, 2017, we have a while to wait to drop into the action. But Xbox One players can get a small taste with an open beta from June 13-20, 2016. Visit the official XBox website to sign up for the open beta.
Boasting native 4K display and VR compatibility, this console is possibly the most powerful game system ever developed. But this is not a next generation console. It will be part of the current gen, Xbox One line-up.
