You played dodgeball? I loved dodgeball! Of course, I was the ball. – Mike Wazowski in Monsters Inc.
Disney+ is making a lot of ripples in the streaming pond. Not only is it giving us a streaming service that is under $10/month, it is bringing us some amazing content! One being the new Monsters Inc. TV show, titled Monsters at Work.
Disney+ is set to launch within this year, complete with original movies, series, and documentaries, and I also hope a bunch of past content to search in a vault!! The plan is to end their partnership with Netflix this year in preparation for the new service’s launch. I do believe Netflix is picking their game up with all of their original content as well though.
Billy Crystal and John Goodman are set to take their roles as the monster duo Mike and Sulley in the new show. The dynamic that these two had in the movies, both Monsters Inc. and Monsters University, was simply too good to break up. When creating characters that are different yet complement one another by offering talents and character where the other is lacking has worked for a long time in show business. It is wonderful when you find this synergy.
This time we will be following a character named Tylor Tuskmon (voiced by Ben Feldman), who is “an eager and talented young mechanic on the Monsters, Inc. Facilities Team who dreams of working his way up to the factory Laugh Floor to become a jokester alongside his idols Mike and Sulley,” according to Disney. With this direction, it explores the aftermath of Mike and Sulley’s discovery that a child’s laughter is 10 times more powerful than their screams. In essence, it’s laughter, not fear, that’s keeping Monstropolis powered.
It Is Said That the Story Picks Up Six Months After the Original Movie
Personally, I believe this is a great twist of events. It is hoped that we do get a chance to see Boo again, seeing as at the end of the original movie Sulley and Mike did reconstruct her door. No matter what, this show will evolve with or without her. The storyline so far fits well with the movie and how the characters can be developed and loved by all.
With a new character, there will be new monsters along with returning favorites, such as John Ratzenberger as Yeti, Jennifer Tilly as Celia Mae and Bob Peterson as Roz.
Monsters Inc., along with Toy Story and Cars, is a classic. The Pixar movies have become a standard for our viewing pleasure. I am so excited to see what they bring and how adorable the series will be as it comes out. Being able to hold on to these characters with fresh new storylines will only make it better.
In addition, Disney creating their own streaming service and seeing the lineup that is currently unfolding, yet the price for this streaming service is a no-brainer. I can’t complain. I had a running joke between myself and friends that this would be $30+/ month because, well, Disney.
