New year, new movies to see. This year is packed with highly anticipated releases from thrillers to superheroes and long awaited sequels. According to Deadline, 2016 may be another hit for Star Wars fans. Thanks to a survey run by Fandango during the last weeks of 2015, we now have a list of the most anticipated films, actors and actresses for this year.
On the top of Fandango’s film list was Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Rogue One will take place moments before the original 1977 movie Star Wars: A New Hope. This installment in the Star Wars series is based around the band of secret rebels who plot to steal the plans to the Death Star. Number two on the list was Finding Dory, the long-awaited sequel to Disney-Pixar’s Finding Nemo. Number three was Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, no surprise there. Number four was the Untitled Jason Bourne movie and coming in at number five was Captain America: Civil War. I have to say my list is very similar to this top 5, with the exception of the Jason Bourne movie, and I would put Captain America at the top.
The most anticipated actresses list is somewhat predictable. First there’s Melissa McCarthy leading the charge in the all-female Ghostbusters, then Scarlett Johansson in Captain America: Civil War, third place goes to Jennifer Lawrence in X-Men: Apocalypse, Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron finish out the top 6 in their respective movies, The Girl on the Train and The Huntsman: Winter’s War.
The most anticipated actors list consists of Matt Damon in first place thanks to his return to the Jason Bourne franchise, Will Smith came in second for his role in Suicide Squad, Ryan Reynolds was third for Deadpool, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne in Batman vs. Superman and George Clooney in Hail, Ceasar! round out the top five spots.
Additional list highlights include Gal Gadot and Sophie Turner leading the lists for most anticipated Comic Book Character Debuting in a Major Role and Rising Female Movie Star.
