CBS Films’ American Assassin gets its villain. Variety reports that Taylor Kitsch, most commonly known for his portrayal of Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights, has joined Teen Wolf’s Dylan O’Brien and Michael Keaton in CBS Films’ upcoming adaptation of American Assassin.
A Thrilling Villain
Kitsch will co-star in the thriller based on Vince Flynn’s best selling book series. American Assassin follows Mitch Rapp an Arab linguistics student who joins the CIA as an assassin after his girlfriend is killed in a terrorist attack. Rapp is joined by Cold War Veteran Stan Hurley, one of the most fearsome and secret training officers in the CIA, whose existence is known only by a select few. The two of them will have to work together with a lethal Turkish agent to stop a mysterious operative from starting World War III in the Middle East. Mitch Rapp is going to be portrayed by Dylan O’Brien while Michael Keaton will be in the role of Stan Hurley. The role of the Turkish agent has yet to be cast while Taylor Kitsch will be the mysterious operative.
Michael Custa will be the director for this project and Di Bonaventura Pictures and Nick Wechsler Productions will produce it. Mark Ross, the senior VP of Production, and Alex Ginno, VP of Production, are charged with overseeing this for CBS Films. American Assassin will mark the latest project in the partnership between Lionsgate and CBS Films and will be co-financed by both companies. The book series was originally published by Atria Books and American Assassin is one of the 14 novels set in this universe. All of them have been on the New York Times Bestseller list at one point or another. And the series as a whole has sold over 20 million copies.
Taylor Kitsch, repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment, has recently been in HBO’s The Normal Heart and had a supporting role in season 2 of True Detective. We look forward to seeing what he does with this kind of role in his pocket.
