In addition to superhero’s domination of blockbuster films, we can confidently say that we are in the golden age of superhero television. Marvel has their heroes across ABC (Agents of SHEILD, Agent Carter) and Netflix (Daredevil, upcoming Jessica Jones), while DC Comics is spread over multiple networks. Though they have a handful of shows that have their focus on the heroes themselves (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl), Gotham has come to define itself by its villains.
Though the show had a rocky first season (many derided the show for being “a Batman show without Batman”), the second season is said to have taken a turn for the better (read our weekly recap here). Focusing on Jim Gordon’s struggle with a pre-Batman Gotham, the show has welcomed the Caped Crusader’s rogues gallery. More than that, they are celebrating the diverse group of villains, the subtitle for Season 2 has been established as “Rise of the Villains.”
With that in mind, Gotham and Batman fans alike can look forward to Mr. Freeze making an appearance on the show. The young scientist will be portrayed by Nathan Darrow. Darrow is a character actor who has appeared in various TV shows and films, but is most notable for his role of Meechum on Netflix’s House of Cards.
Though he won’t be in the full Mr. Freeze gear, Darrow is set to make an appearance as Victor Fries on November 30th. Mr. Freeze has had a pretty rough go when it comes to the various adaptations out there. Most of us are aware of the Batman and Robin iteration of the character. You know, the one where Arnold Schwarzenegger makes painful puns for two hours while “Bane” is luchador/brain-dead henchman and Poison Ivy is a weird fetish model? Yeah, that movie. We have since seen the Bane character given another chance with The Dark Knight Rises. Hopefully Mr. Freeze will be given another chance in the cinematic realm. In the meantime, it looks like the pre-villain Freeze will be fans best chance at seeing the character given justice.
