Netflix is Adapting Yet Another Beloved Novel
It was just announced this week that Netflix will be adapting the beloved novel, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Netflix really has been hunting for novels to adapt lately, haven’t they?
All the Light We Cannot See
All the Light We Cannot See is a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel written by Anthony Doerr. The novel follows Marie-Laurie, a blind girl, and Werner, an orphan, in France during World War II. The two very unexpectedly meet while on the run, and together, give us one of the most beautiful tales.
The novel was originally published in 2014, but since has been reprinted countless times. It was almost an instant classic, which certainly explains all the awards it’s won! It even stayed on the New York Times Best Seller list for a mind-blowing one hundred and thirty weeks.
The Netflix adaptation will be a limited series. This is perfect, because it means they won’t stretch out and change the plot on us. We don’t know the episode count yet, but Netflix will likely reveal that in the following months.
21 Laps is the studio in charge of filming. You may recognize the name—they were the ones behind Stranger Things. This is reason to have high hopes for the adaptation.
No news yet on who the writers, directors, producers, or cast will be. With any luck, we’ll be hearing more about that very soon. I’m sure we’re all anxious to see who’s going to end up playing these characters whom we feel so strongly about. Personally, I’m most anxious to see who will end up writing the screenplay for the adaptation. That can easily make or break it, depending on how faithful they are to the original content.
