Netflix has been working on making a series connected to the beloved Dark Crystal movie. The series itself is going to be a prequel, meaning that they’ll be covering the events from before the movie – something fans have been asking for. Though, realistically, we’d take anything at this point.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set in Thra, of course. It follows the three Gelflings (Rian, Brea, and Deet) who were pivotal in learning the secret behind the Skeksis and their power. Best of all? The series looks exactly like we would have hoped. The designs and aesthetics are everything that made us fall in love with The Dark Crystal.

The series will be ten episodes long. But one can hope that if it does well enough, more will come!

The Cast

Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nathalie Emmanuel will be playing the three leading roles in the series. Or rather, they will be lending the voices to the puppets in those roles. Together they’ll be bringing Rian, Brea, and Deet to life.

If that wasn’t enough, there are plenty of other actors involved in this project. Mark Hamill will be involved as well. Considering his voice acting talents, that one isn’t a surprise. But it will be exciting! Other actors involved include Alicia Vikander, Andy Samberg, Eddie Izzard, Helena Bonham Carter, Keegan-Michael Key, Mark Strong, Natalie Dormer, and Simon Pegg.

The Release

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will release to Netflix on August 30th. So make sure your Netflix subscriptions are up to date!
