New Adaptation of The Crow to Start Production

According to Screengeek, a new film adaptation of the 1989 comic book series, The Crow, is scheduled to begin pre-production this coming February. Though it’s not quite confirmed if Corin Hardy and Jason Momoa are still attached to the project, some of their social media posts seem to point us in that direction.

Remembering The Crow

The Crow was a comic book series that followed the superhero of the same name. It was written by James O’Barr, who will be heavily involved in the upcoming film. The comic book follows Eric Draven (also known as The Crow). Draven is brought back from the dead after he and his fiancee, Shelly, are left for dead by a gang of vicious criminals. They both die and after Draven’s resurrection, he starts to methodically stalk and kill the people who killed him and his girlfriend. O’Barr wrote this comic series, in part, to cope with the death of his own girlfriend at the hands of a drunk driver.

The Crow has an earlier film adaptation, as well as three sequels and a television series. The 1994 film adapation was made notable by a terrible tragedy. Brandon Lee, who starred as the titular character, was accidentally killed on set when he was shot with a defective blank bullet. The subsequent sequels had four different men in the lead role: Vincent Perez in the film The Crow: City of Angels (1996), Marc Dacascos in the television show The Crow: Stairway to Heaven (1998), Eric Mabius in the film The Crow: Salvation (2000), and Edward Furlong in the film The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).

Brandon Lee as The Crow

It is not clear who will play Eric Draven in the upcoming film. However, it is rumored that Jason Momoa will take over the role as the eponymous character in the upcoming film adaptation. Before you get your hopes up too high, there has been no recent news regarding this casting.

This upcoming film will restart the visual media continuity of the franchise.

What do you think of this new adapation? How fabulous would Jason Mamoa be as Eric Draven? Talk about it in the comments!
