Sunday night was not only the finale of the second season of Game of Thrones, but it was also the MTV Movie Awards. Now, I am not usually one who will watch these type of awards. I do not think they offer recognition of any actual accomplishments, and are really just a time to revisit movies from the previous year and let fans catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrities, unlike the Academy Awards, which do honor actual achievements in the film making industry. But. there is one reason that I will sometimes tune into one of these award shows: new movie trailers and footage. Last night, we were not let down.It was not a trailer, but just something, as Christoper Nolan put it, whet our appetite. The video was online this morning but has been rapidly disappearing, so you may have to tune into the last bit of the MTV Music Awards which will probably be repeating daily on MTV.
Although it did take nearly the entire award show to get to see the footage, (naturally, or else people would have a reason to tune out early), we were treated to something spectacular. Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt took to the stage to revisit the Dark Knight films of the past. They took time to bring up the themes we have come to know as well as some of the characters we came to love. After a bit of an almost teary moment from Christian Bale at the site of Heath Ledger’s performance, Chris Nolan was brought out to introduce a few clips from the final installment of the third film, The Dark Knight Rises.
In my opinion, it was frakkin’ awesome! So cool! I honestly can not wait for July 20th to get here already. I am planning on seeing it multiple times and that is just in the first weekend alone!
