New Hell, New Hellboy
Through Empire Magazine, Lionsgate Studios has released a new image of David Harbour in the upcoming Hellboy. Based off of the characters in the Mike Mignola comic, the movie will be a new story, not a continuation of the movies helmed by Guillermo del Toro.
The new film will release more than a decade after Hellboy’s last live-action appearance in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. The image recently released shows Harbour in full makeup as the title character, walking hurriedly through a corridor with trench coat or duster blowing in the breeze. I apologize for my lack of knowledge concerning the demon’s outerwear. But the main thing to take away from picture is how good it looks. Even from the still, you can tell that the tone of the movie will be a bit more serious than what we had previously been accustomed to. And Harbour’s look as the red hero is recognizable while still making it his own. As much as I love Ron Perlman’s turn as the character I’m excited to see the changes Harbour will make. You can see the image below.
So, When Do We See the Whole Thing?
The movie is scheduled to release on April 12, 2019. Alongside Harbour, the film will also feature the talents of Milla Jovovich, Ian McShane, and Daniel Dae Kim. Kim, hopefully, gives us the Hellboy/Lost crossover you did not know you wanted until now. Was the Island actually just Hellboy’s dream? Have too many years gone by for a Lost reference to be funny? Even if the reference was current, would it have been funny? What does any of this have to do with Hellboy? We will find out on April 12 (but probably nothing)!
But what do you think of the photo? Are you Perlman for life, or willing to give Harbour a chance? To put you more at ease, creator Mike Mignola is taking an active part in the creation of the script. If that excites you, let us know below! And if you have not already, be sure to check out the official poster for the movie here.
