DC has already revealed a glimpse into their upcoming film, Birds of Prey. Harley Quinn is the central character, but Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) are joining her in the spotlight.
The Birds of Prey Twitter account posted a photo of Winstead on set as Huntress.

They wrote, “BRAND NEW Set Picture of Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress in the Birds of Prey!” She looked really badass, I must say. She is not wearing a mask like the character in the comics, but the rest of the outfit is a nod to the source material.
In an interview with The Wrap, Winstead talked a bit more about taking on the role. She admitted she was not familiar with Huntress or her complicated past but was excited about her depth.
“I can’t say that I was a huge comic book reader,” she said. “But when I met with Cathy Yan, who’s directing the film and learned kind of the back story of the character, I was really interested. It’s a really strong, kind of emotional place to start from for a superhero character. I won’t go into too much detail now, but I think it’s an interesting opportunity to do something cool with this character.”
She also talked about the excitement of working on a movie led by mostly women. She said, “It’s really exciting, and even in the process of going through getting the role was a very different experience than I’ve typically been through…Being with the other actresses and a female director and just the whole energy behind this is so unique, so I’m really happy about that.”
Birds of Prey will hit theaters February 7, 2020.
