After its debut at the 2016 Upfront presentation on Wednesday, CBS Studios released a teaser trailer revealing the logo for the all-new Star Trek series. The sequence is very Doctor Who-esque and perhaps even borrows graphics from J.J. Abrams’ reboot
What We Know About the New Star Trek Series
The currently untitled Star Trek series is set to begin streaming on CBS All-Access in January 2017. Though there is no news regarding the cast, we do know shooting is scheduled to begin this fall in Toronto, Canada.
Following the news of its release, many fans questioned what timeline the showrunner, Bryan Fuller, planned to have the series take place. According to Birth.Movies.Death., the series will not be set in the reboot universe of the J.J. Abrams movies, but in an original timeline. The speculation is that the new Star Trek series will be set sometime between the original series and The Next Generation.
Wherever, or whenever, the show takes place, the teaser promises, “New Crews, New Villains, New Heroes, New Worlds,” while adhering to the “dramatic contemporary themes” that have decorated the franchise since 1966.
